Cove Shoe Problems

Some employees at an area factory say moldy shoes from China are making them sick.

A health and safety official at Cove Shoes in Martinsburg confirmed a handful of people have complained of a sore throat and one woman had an allergic reaction.

Ralph Lewis says the shipment somehow got wet on the way over from China, and mold grew on the shoes. Cove Shoes makes almost everything in house, but they do import some shoes.

Employees started cleaning the mold off the shoes, and then a few of them started complaining of sore throats. One woman actually had an allergic reaction and was taken to the hospital. She was treated and actually returned to work that day.

Management got a call from OSHA Tuesday that someone had filed an informal complaint about the mold.

Lewis says employees are no longer handling the moldy shoes.  He says the mold on the shoes is actually a pretty common variety. He says it’s not infectious and it can be found just about anywhere.

He says they’re looking into finding a different way to clean the shoes so employees wouldn’t be exposed to the mold. or they could sub-contract the work out to a company that specializes in this kind of thing.

He also said they would have done that ordinarily but those companies are backed up. There have been a lot of mold cases linked to the rainy summer in China.

Lewis says the health of the employees is the most important thing so they’re going to be more careful with their incoming shipments in the future.

About – Latest and Hottest Fashion Style Trends

If you run a clothing, jewellery or fashion business, you need to keep up with the latest trends. Your customers come to you expecting fresh looks, and if you can’t provide them, they’ll go elsewhere. These are some tips on keeping one step ahead of your competitors, and making sure you always have the newest styles.

One of the cutest, and most flattering looks, is to pick a jumper that is fitted and rouched at the bust; this creates a swingy shape and gives you room to wear a shirt underneath. Jumpers and pinafore dresses are already very girly, so choose them in neutral shades and compliment them with a shirt that is bold in color. If you’re headed to the farmer’s market, throw on a bright, paper-thin t-shirt underneath and put a pair of flip-flops on your feet; on the opposite end of the spectrum, if you’re going to the office, opt for a more structured blouse, bold, but sans frills, and a pair of ballet flats or wedges. The rouching at the bustline gives this outfit plenty of flair, so jewelry is not necessary.

It’s never too soon to start shopping for prom dresses. When you do, be sure to check out two of the best plus-size lines: Calito and Igigi. If you’re looking for a long formal, first think about the bodice. Do you want wide straps, spaghetti straps, or a strapless formal? Would you prefer that the bodice be fitted or more flowing? (Remember, don’t be afraid to show your curves!)

T-shirt dresses are a staple in many a fashionista’s closet. One of the simplest items to slip on, dress up or down and head to Starbucks in, everyone from Los Angeles to New York City is wearing them. The problem with these is that, traditionally, they have been made to be a bit more clingy; those of us without a personal trainer can be left feeling a bit self-conscience. This year, designers are answering the call to ease up and design a dress that even those of us that are not a size 2 can wear, comfortably and confidently. Showcasing t-shirt dresses with more swing and shift has allowed all of us to enjoy one of the most perfectly perfect clothing items that summer can bring. Another addition has been the drawstring hemlines which give these a sporty look with more volume. Pop these on with sandals or ballet inspired Keds and you can go from morning to evening without ever changing your clothes.

Jeans are the staple of any wardrobe. You can dress them up or dress them down. You can buy them with embellishments, or stick with the traditional five-pocket indigo variety. This season, waistlines are inching up a bit, but finishes and embellishments are very much in vogue.

Lightweight denim is emerging on the scene, often with skinny legs that scrunch up. Bell legs pair with aqua washes and slubbing to give jeans that lived-in look. Jeans that have multi-directional weaves give off an air of sophistication, while detailed back pockets on any pair of jeans brings attention to the wearer.

Keeping up with trends is an ongoing process, and you should set aside some time at least every season to catch up with the latest fashions. Reassuring your customers that you have the newest styles will make them come back to you again and again.

Watches are made from a wide variety of different materials. If you are buying a quality watch from a reputable dealer you will be able to tell what a watch is made from before you buy it. These details can normally be found on each different component; the watch strap or bracelet and the case back.  If you are buying online this information should be found in the product description.

Gold Watches

Gold is only used for luxury watches. There are two main reasons for this; firstly that gold is an expensive material, secondly that it is an extremely soft metal. Gold watches are dress watches, normally purchased for special occasions and are not suitable for everyday wear. One advantage to having a gold watch is that gold has an intrinsic value. If the watch can no longer be worn the gold still has a value according to its weight and the price of gold on any given day.

Gold Plated Watches

If you fancy a gold watch but want something more usable than a solid gold watch you can opt for a watch with a leather strap and gold case or a gold plated watch. Gold plated watches have the same lustrous colour as gold but come at a fraction of the price. New technology in this field means that instead of layering the gold on top of a base metal it is now infused into it (by a process known as Physical Vapour Deposition or P.V.D.). This results in a more even spread of colour and longer lasting cover.

Silver Watches

Silver is also a luxury item that retains its value. It is not as expensive or as soft as gold but is still a malleable substance which is why it is used so frequently in jewellery. Silver watches are more durable than gold watches but are more prone to tarnishing. Although this can be rectified by regular cleaning and taking good care of your watch.

Titanium Watches

Titanium is a lightweight and exceptionally durable material. It has the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal. Anything that is worn on the wrist is likely to take a lot of damage over it’s life, so titanium is an ideal material to make a watch out of.. The downside is that it is an expensive material compared to stainless steel, so the cost is often considered prohibitive by watch makers.

Stainless Steel Watches

Stainless Steel is the most common of all metals used in the construction of watches. It is strong, resistant to most forms of corrosion and does not easily stain. This combined with its distinctive bright colouring make it an ideal metal to use in watch making. It is commonly used for watch cases whatever the strap type and is a relatively cheap option.

Rubber/Resin Watches

Watches with resin straps are normally designed for serious outdoor use. They are really tough and have the advantage of being both lightweight and water resistant, protecting the delicate workings of the watch. Often childrens watches will have a strap made from resin for much the same reasons!

Leather Strap Watches

Leather is used to make watch straps because it is inexpensive, compared to the other products. It also allows for customisation. Leather can be dyed any colour. Due to the predominant use of buckles as a fastening, leather straps can be made one length and easily adjusted to fit a number of different sized wrists. The downside is that they are nowhere near as long lasting as metal straps and they can get stained fairly easily. Leather straps have the advantage of being made from a soft natural fabric, so most people find that they are comfortable to wear. Imitation leather is also available, these straps tend to be cheaper and less durable. Some people may find that they are allergic to them.

Webbing Strap Watches

Webbing straps are generally the cheapest of the straps on the market. They are commonly made from nylon. They are fairly durable and normally water resistant. They are often used for watches that are designed specifically for outdoor pursuits or for childrens watches.

So you have found the perfect ensemble to wear for your evening party, the glossy skin from a salon visit and that perfect pair from Jimmy Choos. What you didn’t figure into this style calculation was that your lovely locks would grow exponentially to the heat and humidity and turn into a mass of frizzy unruly curls. Before you cringe with mortification as you look yourself in the mirror, here are five ways to manage your mane this summer and brush in the trendy factor.

1)      The messy bun look – The easiest thing to do with frizzy hair is a slightly messy bun with a side part. Look into your bag for a few hair clips or a hair band and a hairspray. Scoop up some hair straightening cream and run it through your locks, slowly gathering them together into a low ponytail. Twirl the ponytail, make a loose bun and fix it with bobby pins. It’s great because it does not have to be perfect and keeps the hair out of the way.

2)      The braided look:  The hottest this season is the milkmaid braid. This is not only simple and practical, you can carry it off with almost any wear. Part your hair down the middle, create two braids on each side, and lock them with hair pins or elastics. If you have long enough hair, you could cross the braids at the top of your head and then twist them into a low bun at the back. Coat your hair with a hairspray if you want no flyways.

3)      The slick black curly ponytail: If your straight hair cannot hold a curl then you might need a styling product combed in. Slick it back with a gel, gather the mane at the nape and tie it with an elastic. Separate the ponytail into two or three sections and use a double barrel curling iron to get three strands of soft curly hair.

4)       The headgear: Sometimes the only thing needed to add the cool element is a headgear. Wrap your head with a bandana or a scarf or a straw hat if you are planning to go out in the heat and don’t want to tie up your locks. If you have really short hair, then look out for the cute hair pins – the bobby pins and barrettes of all kinds. Try pinning a flower or tucking one into the locks for that chic summer look.
